Message from
the New President First, I would like to sincerely thank Pat Grogan (Matt) for all the effort and inspiration his leadership has given to our club. Getting to know Pat over my 4 years of involvement as a parent and coach, I have come to admire and share his enthusiastic support of the kids and for the growing sport of wrestling in Texas. However, my size 8 feet will need some help filling Pat’s big shoes. Paul Corner (Jake) will continue in his role as Vice President and Tony Oubre (Tyler, Daniel and Matthew) will assist with operations. Michelle Perry (Cole) has volunteered to handle administrative duties and generally keep the paper work in order. My appreciation goes out in advance for the work ahead. The San Antonio Wrestling Club is very fortunate for the quality coaching staff we have instructing our wrestlers. Their energy and experience translates into the winning attitude we train towards and exhibit on the mat. The decision to split practices has proven beneficial to both the beginners and advanced kids. Our wrestlers progressed at a pace best suited to their individual development and everyone showed great improvement. This format will be used again next year. SAWC was started in 1999 with the core value of introducing organized youth wrestling to San Antonio. I strongly feel that, through a lot of hard work, we have accomplished this goal. Now our mission must be expanded to the task of firmly establishing the sport in the community. The old saying is true; wrestling will give back as much as you put in. I can personally speak of these life long rewards as both a competitor and now a father. I’m greatly anticipating the challenges of next season. We will build on the successes of 2005, have the pleasure of meeting a new group of eager young wrestlers and have a bunch of fun. Greg Shue (Griffin) |
